Building remediation and refurbishment for government property

DICE Contracting delivers building remediation and refurbishment for government and commercial property owners across Australia, covering fire rectification, water and flood damage, vermin and contamination remediation, compliance rectification, defect rectification and full interior refurbishment.

Wellington Correctional Centre remediation works
  • Fire damage rectification
  • Water, flood & storm damage
  • Contamination & vermin
  • Compliance rectification
  • Defect & make-good
  • Hazardous materials

Nobody plans a remediation project. Ours start with an incident, an inspection or a closure notice, so the binding constraint is almost always time.

We mobilise directly employed crews and our own fleet, so nothing waits on a subcontract market. That is how a contaminated correctional wing came back in three months, and a fire-damaged accommodation block in four weeks.

Remediation services

  • Fire damage rectification: make-safe, strip-out, structural repair, HVAC replacement, repaint, FFE replacement, sanitisation, re-occupation
  • Water, flood and storm damage: drying, replacement of damaged linings, mould treatment, reinstatement
  • Vermin, pest and biological contamination: removal of contaminated linings, deep clean and sanitisation, future-proofing against reinfestation
  • Compliance rectification, returning buildings to compliance with the National Construction Code, fire safety, food safety, accessibility and council orders
  • Defect rectification and make-good for asset owners, tenants and head contractors
  • Building envelope remediation: roofing, roof plumbing, glazing, waterproofing, façade repair
  • Structural and services upgrades, including electrical and plumbing infrastructure renewal within existing buildings

Urgent and emergency remediation

The sequence rarely varies. Attend and make safe. Scope and quantify the damage with the asset owner and insurer. Agree a staged reinstatement programme, deliver it, and hand back a commissioned, compliant, re-occupiable space.

Refurbishment of occupied buildings

Refurbishment is our core project type: the $500,000 to $5 million band, delivered in buildings that stay open. Scopes usually take in flooring, painting, ceilings, partitions, joinery, bathroom and amenity upgrades, lighting and services, accessibility upgrades and security fabric.

Hazardous and contaminated materials

DICE has a proven record of safely managing contaminated materials, including lead-based paint and asbestos, with documented control plans, licensed removal and clearance certification.

Frequently asked

Building Remediation & Refurbishment: questions we get asked

What is building remediation?

Building remediation is the repair and reinstatement of a building damaged, contaminated or rendered non-compliant by fire, water, pests, hazardous materials or a compliance failure, so that it can be safely and lawfully re-occupied. Refurbishment is a different thing: it upgrades a building that is already sound.

How quickly can DICE Contracting mobilise to an emergency remediation?

DICE Contracting has reinstated a fire-damaged accommodation wing at Melbourne Immigration Transit Accommodation in under four weeks, and completed a full correctional-wing remediation at Wellington Correctional Centre in three months, mobilising directly employed crews and owned plant.

Can DICE Contracting remediate a building that stays occupied?

Yes. Remediation inside operating facilities is DICE Contracting’s specialisation, using zoned staging, contamination control, maintained fire and egress compliance and progressive commissioned handback.

Does DICE Contracting handle asbestos and lead paint?

Yes, with documented control plans and licensed removal contractors, including air monitoring and clearance certification where required.

What value remediation projects does DICE Contracting take on?

From roughly $50,000 through to $5 million. The largest delivered to date is the $4.5 million Wellington Correctional Centre mouse plague remediation for BGIS.

Where does DICE Contracting deliver remediation work?

Across New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Queensland and the Northern Territory, including regional and remote communities.
