Tyalgum General Store Compliance Works
The general store at Tyalgum in the NSW Northern Rivers had been closed on compliance grounds, leaving a flood-affected community without a shop. DICE Contracting rectified the compliance issues and the store reopened after six weeks.
Scope of works
- Assessment of compliance defects
- Mobilisation of DICE employees and specialist contractors
- Rectification works to compliance standard
- Reopening within six weeks
The constraint
A flood-affected community with no other shop for daily needs, and a store that could not reopen until it complied.
Outcome
The store reopened after six weeks and the community regained its only source of daily supplies.
Indigenous participation
DICE took on a local apprentice carpenter through this project. They have since worked on the Murwillumbah Courthouse roof restoration and the Youth Justice Centre Acmena refurbishment.
