The part of the contract that stays behind

DICE stands for Dedicated to Indigenous Community and Employment, and the community work on this page is funded by the building contracts we win. DICE Contracting has built the Josiah Healing Centre in Brewarrina, established a co-working hub for Indigenous organisations in the same town with Yarruu Indigenous Corporation, delivered National Reconciliation Week ceremonies at the Parramatta Justice Precinct with the Darug Traditional Custodians, and sponsors sports teams and a children’s dance group across north-western NSW.

Acknowledgement of Country

DICE Contracting acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognises their continuing connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respect to them and their cultures, and to Elders past, present and emerging.

Community projects and partnerships

Josiah Healing Centre, Brewarrina

DICE Contracting helped Uncle Ike realise a lifelong ambition: a community centre and church in Brewarrina.

Five years ago Brewarrina had the highest suicide rate of any country town in Australia, and the average life span of an Aboriginal man in Brewarrina was 42 years. Uncle Ike’s vision was to break that cycle and give young people purpose, connection and enjoyment.

DICE organised volunteers and donated materials, labour and time to convert an old clothing store into the centre. Inside it: a café where teenagers train in hospitality, a shop selling Aboriginal art, a gym, a meeting space for AA and youth groups, and a recording studio for young musicians.

Yarruu and DICE Contracting Community Hub, Brewarrina

With Yarruu Indigenous Corporation, DICE created a community hub and co-working centre in Brewarrina. Local organisations use it as office, meeting and training space, Moogahlin Performing Arts among them.

DICE organised transport from Sydney and donated labour to install the donated furniture. The local DICE team maintains the facility.

National Reconciliation Week at Parramatta Justice Precinct

National Reconciliation Week, Parramatta Justice Precinct

Engaged by BGIS, DICE organised a Welcome to Country, smoking ceremony, traditional dance and cultural awareness talk for National Reconciliation Week in 2022 and 2023 at the Justice Precinct Forecourt in Parramatta.

DICE partnered with Uncle Lex Dadd and the Jannawi Dance Clan of the Darug Traditional Custodians. Audiences came from the Department of Communities and Justice and BGIS. The event is now held annually.

DICE Contracting support for North West NSW sports teams

North-west NSW sports sponsorships

DICE sponsors the Brewarrina Girls League Tag Team, premiership winners and grand finalists; co-funds travel for Jana Lee Conroy of Brewarrina, who plays for Dubbo Kangaroos in the NSW Rugby League; and sponsors the Goodooga Magpies Rugby League Team.

Brewarrina Kids Dance Group

DICE sponsors the Brewarrina Kids Dance Group, which encourages children to celebrate their culture through dance. With DICE’s support the group has performed at Baiame’s Ngunnhu Festival on multiple occasions.

Employment and training through our contracts

Community sponsorship is the visible part. The structural part is what happens on site.

We prioritise Indigenous suppliers and subcontractors from the local community, employ and mentor apprentices, and fund accredited training for our tradespeople.

Through the BGIS courthouses contract DICE upskilled its people with WHS courses and employed an additional apprentice on the North Coast. The Tyalgum project put a local apprentice carpenter on the tools who has since worked on the Murwillumbah Courthouse roof restoration and the Youth Justice Centre Acmena refurbishment.

For government buyers, this is the social return that sits behind a Supply Nation certified contract, and it is reportable.

Is DICE Contracting Supply Nation certified?

Yes. DICE Contracting is a certified Supply Nation member. Supply Nation certification requires at least 51% Indigenous ownership; DICE Contracting is 100% Indigenous-owned.

Does contracting with DICE Contracting count towards Indigenous procurement targets?

Yes, for Commonwealth Indigenous Procurement Policy targets and comparable state policies including the NSW Aboriginal Procurement Policy. Buyers should confirm current thresholds and mandatory minimum requirements against the applicable policy at the time of procurement.

Does DICE Contracting subcontract to other Indigenous businesses?

Yes. DICE Contracting prioritises Indigenous suppliers and subcontractors from local communities wherever possible, and mentors those businesses so they can compete independently.

Can DICE Contracting deliver cultural services such as Welcome to Country?

DICE Contracting has organised Welcome to Country, smoking ceremonies, traditional dance and cultural awareness sessions, working with Traditional Custodians including Uncle Lex Dadd and the Jannawi Dance Clan of the Darug people.
